Australia Post and StarTrack:
A peak partnership

Festive season consumer demand, the continuing growth of online shopping and increasing consumer expectations for speedier delivery will combine to trigger an annual peak in parcel and mail volumes.

The Linfox and StarTrack shared Intermodal facility runs 24/7 in East Arm, Darwin.

Through its broad road and rail transport network, Linfox Intermodal supports Australia Post and StarTrack to deliver mail and parcels to all corners of the nation.

The relationship is especially critical during Australia Post and StarTrack’s peak period from October to February, when they rely on Linfox’s widespread network and assets for support.

“Linfox helps Australia Post and StarTrack deliver during these peak times, ensuring Australians receive their festive season parcels and gifts when and where they need them,” said Linfox Group Manager, Australia Post and StarTrack, Claude Siwek.

From October to December volumes can almost double as demand is fuelled by the usual Christmas rush and the rise of online flash sales such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Linfox has a proven ability to flex with unforeseen fluctuations in volumes and adjust as required, often at short notice.

“Take Australia Post’s biggest parcel delivery day in December 2018, when three million parcels were delivered.

“More than 40 million parcels were delivered for the month, up more than 11 per cent on the previous year,” said Claude.

“We are well resourced to meet this level of peak demand, which could see the Linfox Intermodal team covering more than 200 interstate linehaul movements daily for Australia Post and StarTrack using a combination of road and rail services.

“Under our agreement as preferred lead logistics provider for Australia Post, Linfox’s east coast linehaul services complement Australia Post’s own linehaul network between Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane,” explained Claude.

Linfox has travelled considerable ground for Australia Post since their journey began in 1998, securing a partnership that would secure Australia Post’s dominance in transport and delivery services.

Linfox also continues to improve network visibility across the fleet and share important safety and compliance programs, including a heightened focus on Chain of Responsibility obligations.

“ As an example of our future express freight commitment, Linfox has recently renewed its agreement with Australia Post and StarTrack to provide a combination of road and rail services from Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide to Alice Springs and Darwin.”
